Four Pillars

Pillar Four — Community Events

Community Events

Gatherings that build a neighborhood.

Community Events is the pillar where a neighborhood becomes a community. FAMA's events are more than dates on a calendar — they are the moments where neighbors meet, families celebrate, and relationships are built. From celebrating students to honoring seniors, each gathering is an invitation to belong, to serve, and to grow stronger together.

Events also create on-ramps into the rest of FAMA's work. A neighbor who comes to a cleanup or a celebration often becomes a volunteer, a partner, or a family connected to ongoing support. The relationships built at events are the soil in which the other pillars grow.

Purpose

To create gatherings that build relationships, celebrate families, honor neighbors, and invite continued participation in the life and work of a stronger neighborhood.

Needs Addressed

What Community Events Addresses

Belonging

Neighbors need safe, free spaces to gather, celebrate, and remember they belong to one another.

Celebration

Student achievement, freedom, and the seniors who built the neighborhood deserve to be honored.

Connection

Relationships between neighbors and those who serve them need intentional spaces to grow.

On-Ramps

Neighbors need easy, welcoming ways to move from attending to serving to partnering.

Impact

What This Work Looks Like

Event participation is tracked at each gathering. Recent participation includes 30 attendees at the Seniors Celebration on September 16, 2026, 60 volunteers at the Grant Park Super Sweep on October 3, 2026, and 30 attendees at the Grant Park Neighborhood Alliance on October 5, 2026. These are event participation counts, not unduplicated annual totals.
